5 Ways For Busy Couples To Make Time For Each Other
1. Figure Out What You Can Change
Lewis and I had to have a come to Jesus moment where we sat down to identify what in our schedules needed to change in order to make more time together. For us that meant planning vacation time without the kids, hiring a babysitter more often, lowering our standards about the neatness of our house and sometimes just saying "no" to other plans.
2. Build Time Rituals
Lewis is a man of habit + routine and really had to help me on this one. But creating rituals together has helped us build better habits so that we don't have to remember as much to make extra time. Some examples of what we've changed are: getting up earlier than the kids to have coffee together, having lunch together at least once a week, scheduling a regular date night and going to bed together as much as possible.
3. Share A Hobby Or Activity
I'm all about having your own hobbies, but finding one you can share together creates fun memories and is a good way to unwind while still spending time together.
4. Prayer Or Devotions Together
This doesn't replace our personal time, but doing this together too, helps us connect at a much deeper level.
5. Turn It Off
I'm guilty of glancing at my phone too often when I should've been engaging with my man. It sent him a powerful non-verbal message of: whatever is happening on my phone is more important than you. We've learned that whether its work, school or whatever responsibility, it's good to disconnect to reconnect.
